Hope Over Hate 2024 – A Tribute in Music and Unity

On Friday, September 27, 2024, Lay the Guns Down Now FoundationA Song For Life, and the Office of Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso came together to present Hope Over Hate: Let the Music Mend, a free tribute concert held at the Brooklyn Borough Hall Promenade.

The event honored those impacted by gun violence through music, remembrance, and community. For two hours, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, artists, survivors, families, and advocates stood together in solidarity, calling for healing and change.

Why We Gathered

Gun violence continues to impact communities across New York City, especially in Brooklyn and the Bronx. Behind every headline is a person, someone’s child, parent, sibling, or friend. Hope Over Hate was created as a space where those lives could be remembered, and where voices could rise in unity against the violence that continues to affect our neighborhoods.

This concert wasn’t just about performance. It was about presence. It was about showing up, for those we’ve lost, for those still healing, and for a future where this cycle can be broken.

The Power of Performance

The 2024 concert featured a vibrant and heartfelt lineup of performers, including:
Devo D, Omigie, Perri Jones, Val, Maxx Nies, Angel Chrisztina, Meluchis, Tsebiyah, Samantha Champagne, and Arron Ruperto.

Each artist brought their own voice and perspective to the stage, some reflective, some celebratory, but all rooted in love for community and commitment to justice. The crowd listened, swayed, and stood in quiet remembrance, then in shared strength.

Looking Ahead

Hope Over Hate: Let the Music Mend was the result of shared effort, a community-driven event made possible by artists, advocates, organizers, and city leaders working together.

Lay the Guns Down Now Foundation was honored to stand alongside our partners in this work, continuing a mission that began years ago with founder Mike Tucker’s dedication to honoring lives lost and preventing further violence.

Through marches, memorials, and community events across the city, Mike and the foundation have worked tirelessly to support grieving families, reach young people, and raise awareness about the impact of gun violence.

As we move forward, we carry this moment with us, continuing to show up, speak out, and stand in solidarity with all those affected.
